Chesham United Football Club are pleased to announce that James Duncan and Michael Murray have agreed a 2-and-a-half-year deal which will keep them together as Joint Manager’s at the Meadow until the end of the 2021/22 season. James and Michael have a long-term ambition for Chesham United, and as a club we are delighted that they have committed their future to us as we enter what should be an exciting year in 2020.

After signing their new deal, James & Michael said, “We’re absolutely delighted to secure our long-term future with the club. Our thanks go to the chairman and board of directors for showing their faith and trust in us. Special thanks to all of the supporters for your continued backing and unwavering commitment to the club. Up the Chesh.

In announcing the new deal, the Board of Directors said “Over the last 14 months, James and Michael have shown their quality as managers, both last season to turn around a struggling squad and this season strengthening across the pitch to take us forward, occupying a play-off place at Christmas and pushing for a title challenge.

But just as important to us is the way James and Michael have worked with the wider club. Along with their coaching staff they immersed themselves immediately, building an understanding for the Club with supporters and the youth and an appreciation for what makes Chesham United a proper Non-League club.

Appointed as Joint Managers in October 2018, James and Michael have made a fantastic start to their time at the Meadow, guiding the Generals from bottom with 1 win from 11 leagues games to a 10th place finish with a fantastic run of form to escape relegation.

Over the summer, they strengthened the squad for this season with the signings of Mark Kirby, Karl Oliyide and Dernell Wynter to add to an already strong squad retained from the previous season. The form has continued to start the 2019/20 season with The Generals currently sitting 3rd in the table after 19 games and in a good position going into a tough Christmas and New Year period.

Prior to joining Chesham, James and Michael were at Potters Bar Town, where in the 2017/18 season they led the Hertfordshire club to promotion into the Bostik Premier Division, before leaving with Potters Bar comfortably settled into the top ten of the new higher division.

The General’s Southern League campaign continues on Saturday, as we host 5th placed Swindon Supermarine at the Meadow.
