We are heading into a busy time at the club with lots going on for you to put into your diary in addition to the football fixtures!
Next Wednesday, 20th October, we will be hosting our Meet The Managers Evening, including a chance to ask questions and receive updates from the Board of the club. The evening starts at 7.00pm and is open to everyone, please do come along to The Chess Suite for what should be an enjoyable and informative evening.
I will be taking this opportunity to outline how I would like to see the structure of the club evolve going forward, built around the existing Board and Management team currently in place. We have many excellent people at the club doing many excellent things, to make sure we get the most out of that the vision is to build a number of teams headed up by individuals that report to the Board and take responsibility for certain areas of the club, e.g. Finance, Commercial, Sales & Marketing, Facilities, Operations.
Most of these areas are covered in one way or another, but there is no real structure to how it operates and there is always room for improvement. I believe that with some good organisation, we can build a team that functions smarter and stops any gaps appearing when someone is away or ill. More of that at the meeting next week.
I have also been asked to advise supporters about the forthcoming Supporters’ Trust AGM. The Supporters Trust in its current form was set up in 2004 to help support Chesham United Football Club. It has donated money and time since then, as well as owning and operating the club for a couple of years, and we would all like them to continue to be involved in the running of the club and in the community. Through good times and bad times, the Trust has made financial contributions to the club which are always appreciated. It is probably no secret that relationships between the club and Trust are not at their strongest currently, but I am hopeful that will change, and we can achieve great things together.
The Chesham United Supporters Society (Supporters Trust) 2020/2021 Annual General Meeting followed by a Trust Meeting will take place on Thursday 28th October 2021 at 7:30pm in The Chess Suite which will be open from 7:00pm. To be permitted to attend the AGM, you will need to be a member for this year, costing £10. To become a member, fill in the online form at https://www.custrust.co.uk/become-a-member/ or pick up a paper form in the Trust Shop on matchdays.
This is of course followed by our Fireworks Night on Friday 5th November which promises to be a spectacular evening. Ticket prices have been held at the same price since 2015 without any compromise to the quality of the display. With covered terraces and our new outside bar in operation, there is no need to wait to see what the weather will be like, tickets are available to book online now: https://cheshamunitedfc.ktckts.com/brand/match-tickets.
On the pitch it has been another frustrating week with two draws away to Yate and at home to Swindon Supermarine. In a time when the UK seems to be suffering from a shortage of everything from fuel to toys, it is reassuring to know that one thing we are not short of is yellow cards; we picked up more than our fair share of these at Yate, including one that led to a red card, which ultimately cost us any chance of victory. Credit to the 10-men that got us back into the game from being 1-0 down.
On Tuesday night we shot ourselves in the foot having dominated against Swindon Supermarine, took the lead through a well-executed finish and then managed to throw it away with a defensive mix-up that gave our visitors renewed belief for the remainder of the match. It just goes to show what fine margins there are between success and failure, hopefully Lady Luck is about to make an appearance in a Chesham shirt over the coming weeks, starting this weekend.
One final word to wish our turnstile operator, George Adams, all the very best. George was taken to Stoke Mandeville Hospital last night (Thursday) and is having his heart monitored, we hope to see George back on his feet and in his regular spot at The Meadow soon.
Thank you for your support
