So here we are on new season eve; another exciting campaign begins tomorrow. After all the weeks of preparation, this is what it is all about and to get you in the mood we will be announcing this evening (Friday), a super set of six new signings ahead of the season opener, which I think will give us our strongest squad for many a year. Keep an eye on social media for details.

As you know by now, we begin our campaign with a long trip down to Plymouth to take on newly promoted Plymouth Parkway – an unknown side at this level, but many people are tipping them to go straight through this league and be a promotion contender by April. That would be a big ask, this is going to be a very tough and competitive league, with a number of clubs once again reportedly splashing a lot of cash on their playing squads at the start of the season, so who knows what the league table will look like come the end.

For our part we have done all the preparation we can for now. James and Michael have worked throughout the summer keeping the squad together and making additions to strengthen and I for one cannot wait to see them in competitive action tomorrow. For those making the journey to the game, your support is much appreciated, obviously heading down west country on a Saturday in the summer holidays, please allow plenty of time for the journey.

If you cannot make the game tomorrow we are delighted once again to Chris Walker providing live commentary of the match from Plymouth, to tune in and listen visit cwsportradio.com or follow @MottysMic on Twitter.

Our first home game is next Saturday when we host Hartley Wintney, you can buy your tickets in advance for this match, and our next two matches, at our online ticketing shop at  http://www.cheshamunited.co.uk/tickets – you will of course be able to pay on the gates on matchdays, but advanced purchases do speed up the process, particularly with more people paying by card rather than cash at the turnstiles nowadays. For those season ticket holders that do not have their tickets by the time of the match, don’t worry, these will be available for collection at the gate also. Finally, you can still purchase seasonal memberships for the season that will get you into all the games this coming season, these are available from the ticketing website also.

The legendary Chesham United Prediction League will be running again this season, and it is not too late to enter. The deadline is 3pm on August 20th, although you will not receive any points for scores predicted after the games have been played, so don’t delay and get your entries in now. You can download an entry form from here, which contains all the details you need to know.

Before all of that we have a charity football match at The Meadow on Sunday as Black Horse FC take on Chesham Athletic, raising money for the Big Community Takeaway and the Cancer Care & Haematology Fund at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, in memory of Bryan Birkett. This game kicks off at 2.00pm with the clubhouse open from midday. Please do come along and show your support, suggested donations for the game are £4 for adults and £2 for children.

With this charity match going ahead it is important that we can get along as many people as possible for a 9.00am Work Party at the club where we will be finishing off the woodwork in The Chess Suite with a fume free gloss paint and weeding the terraces ahead of the new season. Please, if you can, don’t just assume there will be plenty of people doing it, we desperately need more helpers – many hands will make light work.

Elsewhere around the club the new website is coming along, we have a specialist camera operator coming along to take aerial shots around the ground, we have been sound testing ahead of the Taskmaster event on 17th September and player shirt sponsorship, home or away, is now available for just £50 – please feel free me to contact me at any time via chairman@cheshamunited.co.uk.

Stay safe, stay well and thank you for your support

Peter Brown, Chairman
