This was a game that eventually went by the form book, as Chesham went into the game without a win in seven while the home side had won their last six league games. However there was little to choose between the two sides on the day, as Chesham put up a battling performance only to lose to a penalty decision that was dubious to say the least. Chesham made three changes to the starting eleven – Connor Roberts, Alfie Young and Nathan Minhas came in for Connor Roberts, Dan Bayliss and Matt McClure. Young midfielder Will St Clair-Burton made his league debut as a second-half substitute.
Chesham were the better side for much of the opening half and had the first moment of note on 13 minutes. Connor Roberts crossed low from the right, Nathan Minhas challenged for the ball which looped up off a defender and clipped the top of the bar and out for a corner. Chesham continued to look the more likely to score, with Alfie Williams and Mitchell Weiss both testing home keeper Max Harris with long-range efforts. On the half-hour Connor Stevens broke forward and the ball came to Nathan Minhas who shot just wide, then a neat move down the left set up a shooting chance for Matt Lench but Harris was able to save. Towards half-time the home side threatened for the first time with Luke Coulson shooting just wide from distance, then Sam Pearson hit a curling shot but Ben Goode dived to his left to save.
In the opening minute of the second half Ben Goode made a fine flying save from Sam Pearson’s long-range effort. The game was now more even but Chesham still had their moments, and on 55 minutes Connor Roberts broke forward and shot just wide. Just after the hour mark Coulson squared the ball to Sam Pearson who slid in and lifted the ball over the bar. Chesham’s attacks were less frequent but midway through the half Matt Lench shot just over from out on the left. Weston made a triple substitution and began to get on top but Chesham’s defence was still looking solid. On 82 minutes the ball ran loose in the Chesham half and Louis Britton broke clear but Ben Goode came out to block at the expense of a corner. Two minutes later Luke Skinner pushed Connor Roberts off the ball and made for the by-line where he was the victim of a similar challenge from Omar Rowe. However the referee only saw fit to penalise Rowe and gave a penalty, which Louis Britton took and gave Ben Goode no chance from the spot. Chesham attempted to come back but the home side saw the game out after ten minutes of stoppage time.
