Coming from behind to win says a lot about the spirit and determination in this squad. It was another fantastic performance from the players, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who made the long journey to the south coast. The noise and support from the travelling fans were incredible, the songs were amazing and your Twisting & Shouting gave off fantastic energy and quietened the home support! I am certain it made a real difference to the players. It turned a hard-fought win into a brilliant day out for everyone – it really does show the impact our supporters can have.
Tomorrow, we welcome Chippenham Town to The Meadow, while their current league position may suggest they are struggling, that would be a dangerous assumption to make. Every game in this division is tough, and Chippenham are a well-established side with plenty of quality and experience. We will need to be at our best once again, but with your support ringing out around the ground, I know our players will rise to the occasion.
It’s also another busy week off the pitch. Our Fireworks Night is fast approaching – always one of the biggest and best community events we host each year. Tickets are selling fast, so please do grab yours as soon as possible and spread the word among family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues. It’s a wonderful evening for all ages and an important fundraiser for the club. Posters are up around town, although sadly someone decided to remove one from a permitted site and move it ten yards away. A pointless act, especially as we have permission to display them in the same places we use every year. Still, we won’t let that spoil the fun – just a reminder that there will be no parking in or near the ground after 6.30pm until the show has finished and all visitors have left.
Our sports room is now fully functional, complete with pool table and dart board – another positive step for the clubhouse and our social facilities. We’re now looking for players to join our new Chesham United teams, so if you fancy throwing a few darts or potting a few balls under the club banner, please get in touch! The clubhouse itself continues to go from strength to strength, showing all live football throughout the week. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a drink in friendly surroundings, with excellent value prices and plenty of parking. I’d encourage everyone to stay behind after today’s game for a chat, a bite to eat and a post-match pint – every penny spent helps the club and adds to the atmosphere that makes Chesham United so special.
Looking ahead, Saturday 8th November sees our managers host a Football Quiz Night – teams of six at £60 per table. There’ll be laughter, a raffle, and plenty of competitive spirit, with all profits going directly to the Players’ Rehabilitation Fund to help cover the cost of scans and treatments for player injuries. It promises to be another great night in the clubhouse.
Then on Friday 5th December, we’ll be hosting the public launch of our new documentary series, where attendees will get an exclusive preview of the first two episodes showcasing actions & interviews across the whole of Chesham United & Chesham United Women’s. We are just confirming ticket prices and full details will be out soon but will include entry to the exclusive event & some delicious food from a club sponsor. Places will be limited and more details on how to secure yours will be out soon, keep an eye out.
We’re also mindful that the fixture list has given us several home games close together, including our FA Trophy tie against AFC Telford and the Berks & Bucks Cup clash with MK Dons. To help supporters, we’ll be looking to reduce prices for these fixtures, and are in discussion with both oppositions to get these agreed – we know times are tough, and we want to make sure everyone can still come and enjoy their football.
Finally, it was very sad to hear of the passing of Nigel Bunce recently, a long-standing supporter and a familiar face in the main stand. Nigel will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. His funeral will take place at Amersham Crematorium (Milton Chapel) at noon on 17th November, followed by a wake at the clubhouse from 1pm. The family will be joining later after the burial at Chesham Cemetery alongside his late wife. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
As always, thank you for your continued support – home and away. Let’s get behind the team again today and make The Meadow a place that opponents dread coming to.
