It’s been a busy few weeks in the FA WNL and as we approach the weekend we’re excited to be heading to Adams Park for a huge game against Wycombe Wanderers in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup! The change of venue was announced this week and we’re excited that Wycombe are helping to drive the profile of the women’s game locally.

In terms of our recent matches, first we travelled to QPR for our second meeting against the West London team and while the performance was really encouraging we still ended on the end of a 2-0 away defeat. QPR have really improved off the back of much more focussed collaboration with the men’s club and we’re certainly seeing a much improved squad on the 2 times we’ve played them so far. They’ll certainly be up there come the end of the season.

We then welcomed Cambridge United to The Meadow on Sunday 21st. Again a really encouraging performance and courtesy of a goal from Jenny Nagle we were holding the visitors at 1-1 at half time. However, 2 second half goals meant Cambridge travelled home with the points and we’re still searching for our first win of what will continue to be a challenging season.

Next up we were meant to be hosting Charlton Athletic Academy in the FAWNL Cup group stage last weekend. However, as a result of Charlton being unable to fulfil the fixture we were awarded the tie and the 3 points. Unfortunately we were given the news too late to arrange a friendly. However the walk-over ensured we qualified for the FAWNL Plate competition where we will play Ascot United on the 19th October. Our County Cup game will be rescheduled for a mid-week date still TBC.

So all eyes now turn to a Cup tie against local rivals Wycombe Wanderers Women on Sunday afternoon in the 3rd qualifying round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. Wycombe are unbeaten in the division below us and chasing promotion so we’re expecting a tough, physical game where we’ll need to be at our best. Do come along and add your voices to the crowd!

Good luck to the boys this weekend. Let’s hope we can celebrate a couple of important wins early next week!
