Brief notes this week to take the opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Easter, I hope after what we have been through these past two years you get to spend some valuable time with your family and loved ones…and your local football club of course!
There are two massive games for Chesham United this weekend that will have an impact on how and if our season progresses beyond the final weekend of the standard season. Tomorrow (Saturday) we host Gosport Borough at The Meadow knowing that a play-off spot is completely in our own hands, win the next three games and we will be there, in with a shout of promotion via the play-offs.
Winning the games is easier said than done of course, your support at The Meadow on Saturday would be hugely appreciated and I know a bumper crowds will help the team towards the result we need. Kick-off is at 3.00pm, the clubhouse bar will be open and Bill’s Diner will be there serving up the best burgers in the league – we would love to see you there.
Things get even tougher on Monday when we travel to Hayes & Yeading who themselves are still looking to finish top of the league and take an automatic promotion spot – a tough encounter, again, it would be great to see a good travelling support for this one. If we do win those two games, I cannot even begin to imagine how tense it will feel a week on Saturday when we host Wimborne Town in the last game of the season – such an exciting week of football ahead.
On Wednesday, I was over at Hemel Hempstead FC watching the Chesham United Rangers (one of the adult teams the Youth Section now have) take part in West Herts Junior Cup Final. Unfortunately they did not end up running out winners despite being comfortably the better side for the first half hour, Sun Sports took their chances at the right times and in the end ran out winners on an entertaining evening.
Whilst all this is going on we are still looking to plan for next season with so much going on. You will no doubt be aware of our new seasonal membership packages, are newly launched commercial opportunities, our determination to install new floodlights and the fact that we are returning to claret and blue for our home kit. I am delighted with the progress we have made since coming out of lockdown, there are many good people doing good things around the club, which is where we wanted to get to, easing the burden from just a few people. There is still a long way to go, but we are getting there.
On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to pass on our best wishes to long time supporter Fred Wallis who this week was taken to hospital. Fred – we hope to see you again on the terraces as soon as you are ready and able to.
