Already the pitch has been scarified in both directions, had 55 boreholes drilled just over five feet deep and filled with shingle and rootzone to aid drainage. Most recently, the new grass seed has been drilled into the pitch and watering has commence with a huge thanks for the efforts of our kit man Fred who will be moving the watering system most days for the summer. On Monday, it will have fresh rootzone soil distributed across the entire pitch to top cover it. And now the most important bit, can you all please join me in praying for some rain over the coming days and weeks!

The final game on the pitch was the Alex Horne Comedy Football Trophy played in front of 3,992 fans of both football and Taskmaster creating an incredible atmosphere on a glorious day. What a fantastic sight that was, and what a hilariously entertaining afternoon we were all treated to. Once again, I would like to say a massive thank you to Alex and the team of organisers who helped to make the event happen and to those that helped out on the day. It was a great day for the club, I know the tea bar were kept on their toes all afternoon raising great sums of money, the various bars remained busy and we sold-out of all 1,000 programmes that we printed for the event. A great team effort, thank you.

In truth, we were a few volunteers short for what we would like to have been able to cover, I make no apologies for the fact that requests for volunteers is likely to become a theme in my notes over the summer months, but it is the reality of things at the moment, the further forward we are pushing the club, the more that needs doing! If you have time on your hands and would like to help at the club in any way shape or form, please do get in touch, we would love to hear from you. Now this event is completed the next social event up is the Treorchy Male Voice Choir visiting Chesham on 7th June at the Broadway Baptist Church, tickets are selling fast but there are still plenty left and we need a great community effort to ensure that all are sold so that Buckinghamshire Mind benefit as much as possible from the event with much needed funds.

Although the football may have finished, our managers have been busy preparing for next season already, and we will within the next few weeks have announcing our retained list, including those staying with us already and some that will be on to new challenges next season as is natural at this time of season, and of course we have also made some very exciting new signings. As you will be aware by now, we don’t making any announcements until contracts have been agreed and or registration forms have been completed, but I believe that you will be very pleased as we look to move forward again next season.

It has also been confirmed that we will remain in the National League South next season. There had been some whisperings that, because the way the location of teams being relegated from the National League were looking, that teams in our immediate area might have been moved to National League North. As a town that is on the London Underground, I was confident that this would not be the case, not to mention that we are south of (checks atlas) Hemel Hempstead, Chelmsford City & Merthyr Town. Merthyr Town are the side that will play in National League North next season after their promotion from the Southern League South, a shame that we will not get to meet them in the league again next season, but I wish them all the best in their new adventure next season. The new teams that we will face are relegated Dagenham & Redbridge, Ebbsfleet United and Maidenhead United, and promoted AFC Totton, Horsham and Dover Athletic (a clash that will bring back fond memories for supporters of a certain age).

We have also been working on a brand-new website that has gone live this afternoon and will evolve over time with much more information for supporters and improved coverage for our all-important business partners that support the club. Look out on social media for more information on this and if you would like to get involved with helping to provide some of the content for the website – be that match previews, away travel information, content from other sections of the club, etc – we would love to hear from you – contact press@cheshamunited.co.uk

Finally, the final Chesham United fixture took place this week with our U18s winning the League Cup to make it a double for them this season, more info here and with that final game being completed our 2025/26 season tickets are on sale and we have some pre-season friendlies to tell you about tomorrow … so watch this space as this football club never sleeps.
