Although both teams tried their hardest there was little in the way of goalmouth action and a goalless draw always looked the most likely result.
After missing the Horsham game in midweek Alex Babos returned in place of Lewis Rolfe, and the only other change saw Mitchell Weiss replace Matt McClure who was on the bench. There was a yellow card in the opening 20 seconds as Eddie Simon felled Callum Adebiyi with a late challenge, but that was totally out of keeping with the rest of the match. It wasn’t until the nineteenth minute that there was another moment of note, when Tonbridge’s Alfie Allen crossed from the right towards Martell Taylor-Crossdale, the ball came off a defender and Ben Goode dived to scoop the ball over the bar. Towards half-time Chesham began to threaten and Gio Rasulo found Matt Lench who shot over from the edge of the area, then Alex Lafleur got forward and shot past the far post. Lench had another long-range effort which flew high and wide, then at the other end a snap shot from Brody Peart was also off target.
Early in the second half Brody Peart dispossessed Callum Adebiyi only to shoot straight at Ben Goode. Martell Taylor-Crossdale then shot into the net but the flag had already gone up for offside. Chesham’s best moment of the half came on 73 minutes, when Josh Addae’s run and cross set up Alex Lafleur whose shot was blocked and his challenge for the loose ball was deemed a foul. Both side made further substitutions in an effort to change the game but in the end it was to no avail.
