Chesham took an early lead and played some good football in the first half, but Hampton’s equaliser on the stroke of half-time changed the game although a draw seemed the most likely result until deep into stoppage time. Chesham made five changes following Saturday’s draw at Tonbridge, as Callum Adebiyi and Matt Lench were rested and Gio Rasulo, Nathan Minhas and Josh Addae dropped to the bench.  In their place Connor Roberts made his first appearance of the season, Steve Brown and Alfie Williams made their first starts and there were recalls for Samson Esan and Matt McClure.

Hampton had more of the early possession but Chesham broke away and took the lead with a fine goal in the tenth minute.  Alfie Williams played a fine crossfield ball which found Connor Roberts in space on the right, and Roberts played an angled through ball to Mitchell Weiss who controlled and fired into the corner of the net.  Chesham moved the ball well after that but had only one other noteworthy effort, when Connor Roberts crossed to Mitchell Weiss but his header was comfortably saved by keeper James Holden.   Hampton had shown little in attack but in the last minute of normal time Davide Rodari won the ball on halfway and ran on to shoot past Ben Goode but just wide of the post.  The visitors drew encouragement from this and equalised in stoppage time, when Rodari curled a right-foot shot into the far top corner from wide on the left.

The second half was more even but became scrappy as the effects of a warm afternoon and the heavy schedule took their toll.  On 70 minutes Hampton’s Paul Field crossed to substitute Reece Grego-Cox who headed well wide from a good position.  Chesham then came close twice, firstly when a Josh Addae long throw ran loose in the area before the ball was cleared off the line, then after a corner was cleared Connor Stevens crossed to Matt McClure whose shot was parried by Holden.  In a rare Hampton attack Charlie Sayers crossed to sub Soul Kader who turned the ball wide of the near post, but the game was looking like a stalemate until the visitors broke away in stoppage time.  Nathan Paul-Lavaly won the ball and fired in a shot which crashed against the bar and bounced down on the line, and Reece Grego-Cox poked the loose ball into the net.  Chesham launched one last attack, and a Josh Addae long throw was headed out to Omar Rowe who shot over the bar from just outside the area.
