There were five changes to the starting line-up following last Saturday’s narrow defeat at Chelmsford.  Alfie Young and Matt Lench were missing with slight injuries so Dan Bayliss made his first start in defence and Lewis Rolfe came into midfield.  The other changes saw Connor Roberts, Samson Esan and Nathan Minhas come in for Josh Addae, Gio Rasulo and Omar Rowe.

Totton came into the game in fourth place in the league but Chesham took control from the start.  In the tenth minute Alfie Williams crossed from the left to Nathan Minhas whose close-range shot was parried by home keeper Ryan Gosney, then Samson Esan was just off target with a long-range effort.  Midway through the half Mitchell Weiss shot powerfully but straight at Gosney.  On the half-hour Alex Babos found Weiss on the left whose angled drive was tipped over by Gosney, Babos took the corner and Dan Bayliss’ header forced another fine save from Gosney.  Shortly afterwards Gosney was again called into action, diving to his right to turn away Samson Esan’s shot.  The home side’s only effort of the half came shortly before the interval, when Tony Lee shot hurriedly over the bar from just outside the area.

Totton made a double substitution at the interval and started the second half brightly, but Chesham soon resumed control.  Early in the half Mitchell Weiss broke through and appeared to be fouled by Joe Oastler just outside the area but the referee gave nothing.  Two minutes later Alfie Williams shot just over the bar after exchanging passes with Samson Esan.  Totton were occasionally looking dangerous and a left-wing cross from Ashley Clarke found Malachi Linton who lifted the ball over the bar.  However Chesham came back and Mitchell Weiss set up Lewis Rolfe who shot powerfully but a couple of yards over.  Weiss then sent sub Karl Oliyide through but his shot was partially blocked and Gosney was able to save, but in the next minute Chesham took the lead.  Connor Roberts broke forward and set up Samson Esan whose shot was parried by Gosney but Roberts followed up to score.  Shortly afterwards Weiss was clean through but opted to take another touch and his eventual effort was blocked.  Totton brought on Ralph Vigrass whose first involvement was to fire in a shot that was well stopped by Ben Goode, but Declan Rose crossed the ball back in and Tony Lee equalised with a glancing header into the far top corner.  Chesham came back and Gio Rasulo’s shot was saved by Gosney who managed to grab the ball just as Karl Oliyide closed in.  Late in the game Chesham thought they had scored but the goal was disallowed for offside, then at the other end Ashley Clarke shot just wide of Ben Goode’s near post.  The last action of the game came deep in stoppage time when Alex Babos’s shot took a slight deflection and flew just wide.
