But in truth neither side deserved to win a forgettable encounter. With Alex Lafleur and Matt Lench injured Chesham were unchanged from the side that drew at Totton in midweek, the only change being Zak Joseph coming in for the suspended Steve Brown on the bench.
Bath had both their goalkeepers red carded last week, so signed 18-year-old Isaac Finch on loan from Bristol City to make his debut. Finch was called into action in the thirteenth minute, when a Mitchell Weiss through pass sent Nathan Minhas clear but Finch came out smartly to block. However the rookie keeper was rarely troubled after that. The only other noteworthy moment in the half came in the last minute of normal time, when a throw-in ran loose in the Chesham box and Brad Ash’s shot on the turn took a slight deflection and flew just wide.
The nearest either side came to a goal came on 53 minutes, when Connor Roberts crossed low from the right and Mitchell Weiss shot just wide of the near post. Bath fielded five men at the back and concentrated on keeping Chesham out, but came close on 63 minutes when Kieran Parselle broke forward and the ball ran loose but Ben Goode grabbed it just as Alex Fisher looked set to pounce. Chesham made a triple substitution midway through the half, and Karl Oliyide made an instant impact when he battled to win possession but Finch was able to save. Oliyide then set up Samson Esan who curled a shot narrowly over, then Josh Addae’s through ball found Oliyide whose shot was held by the diving Finch. However the game petered out tamely leaving Chesham with just eight goals from their opening eight games.
