Recap
Chesham cruised through to the FA Cup fourth qualifying round with an ultimately comfortable win over Margate. This was a tight affair until Chesham took the lead towards the end of the first half, after which Chesham took control and never looked like losing it. Avan Jones replaced Connor Roberts in the only change to the starting eleven from Tuesday’s draw at Walton & Hersham.
The visitors’ best chance of the game came in the second minute, when full-back Archie Johnson broke forward and fired an angled drive past Zaki Oualah but also past the far post. Margate fielded two former Chesham strikers in Steve Cawley and Phil Roberts, but Roberts only lasted twelve minutes before going off injured. Margate had one more effort on goal in the opening half-hour but Antonis Vasiliou sliced his shot well wide, while Chesham failed to create an effort of note. However on the half-hour Bruno Andrade crossed from the right and Lewis Rolfe just failed to connect, as Chesham began to click into gear. On 36 minutes Ricardo German ran to the by-line on the left and set up Bruno Andrade, who controlled and fired into the net with the aid of a slight deflection. Three minutes later Andrade set up German with a cross from the right but German’s shot flew just wide. Lucas Sinclair replaced the injured Jordan Gibbons and nearly scored within three minutes, heading Bruno Andrade’s free kick into the ground from where it bounced up and over the bar. Chesham finished the half well on top and Lewis Rolfe headed just over from T’Sharne Gallimore’s cross after a corner was cleared.
Early in the second half Ricardo German challenged for the ball on the edge of the area, and the ball fell kindly for Lucas Sinclair who stroked it into the net to make it 2-0. Ricardo German then forced keeper Harry Seaden to dive to his right to save, then just before the hour Bruno Andrade worked himself a shooting chance but his effort was deflected just wide. Margate briefly rallied and Sam Blackman headed just wide from a cross from Daniel Duncanson, then Steve Cawley won possession in the Chesham area but Zaki Oualah came out to block. However the visitors faded and Chesham dominated the last quarter of the game, frequently setting up opportunities but all too often falling foul of the linesman’s flag. In stoppage time Bruno Andrade broke clear and attempted to set up Jordan Edwards for a tap-in but Seaden managed to get his hands on the ball, then T’Sharne Gallimore crossed to Lucas Sinclair who had a free header but nodded the ball straight at Seaden.
