Chesham went down to defeat in their first home FA Cup tie against a Football League team since 1980. Chesham had more of the ball in the opening half and came close to taking a shock lead, but after Lincoln scored for the second time shortly after the interval there was only going to be one outcome. T’Sharne Gallimore was fit again after injury so replaced Omar Rowe In the starting eleven, and the other two changes saw Alex Lafleur and Callum Adebiyi come in for Avan Jones and Steve Brown.
Lincoln came into the game in fifth place in EFL League One, and had the first effort on goal when Jovon Makama’s shot flew over but took a slight deflection on the way. However Chesham made the livelier start, and forced a corner which was part-cleared and Jack Cawley shot wide from outside the area. At the other end Freddie Parker headed over from a Sean Roughan cross but Chesham were looking the more positive side in the opening period. In the 38th minute Chesham had their best moment of the game when a Jack Cawley long throw was part-cleared, Samson Esan crossed back in and Nathan Minhas’ header was tipped onto the bar and over by keeper George Wickens. Lincoln had shown little in attack but took the lead on 44 minutes, when Jack Moylan cut in fro the left and fired in an angled shot that dipped under the crossbar and into the far corner of the net. The league side began to look more positive and on the stroke of half-time Erik Ring shot but Ben Goode was able to save comfortably.
The visitors continued to press in the early stages of the second half. In the opening minute Moylan shot over the bar, then Jovon Makama outpaced the Chesham defence and ran on to fire past the advancing Ben Goode to make it 2-0 on 49 minutes. Lincoln were now in total command and on 65 minutes added a third. Reeco Hackett’s corner was cleared to the edge of the area where Conor McGrandles shot into the net through a crowd of players. Chesham came back with Ashley Lodge having a shot saved by Wickens after another long throw ran loose. Two minutes later Ben Goode produced a memorable save, stretching to tip a shot from JJ McKiernan over the bar after the ball ran loose in the Chesham area. However Lincoln eventually added a fourth on 87 minutes, when Chesham lost possession on the edge of their own area and Zane Okoro challenged for the ball which rolled into the net off Callum Adebiyi. Chesham were tiring and two minutes later Lincoln had a five on one break but allowed Ben Goode to save. Chesham pushed for a consolation in stoppage time and Jack Cawley’s free kick was tipped over by Wickens, then the resulting corner ran loose and Omar Rowe’s shot was blocked in the six-yard box.
