We are delighted to announce that experienced central midfielder Matt Lench has returned to the Meadow nearly 12 years after his first spell at the club.
Matt originally played for the club in the 2012/13 season, coming through our then partnership with Queens School in Watford alongside Lewis Rolfe, making five appearances as a 19 year old. “Lenchy” departed in the summer of 2013 for Hitchin Town where he spent 4 seasons before joining Slough Town for the first of three spells with the Rebels where made 246 appearances, and was part of their 2017/18 play off winning side. His Slough spells sat either side of two spells at Wealdstone where Matt played during 2018 and 2020.
Matt left Slough in October this year with a short spell at St Albans City before signing for the Generals on New Years Eve 2024. On the field, Lenchy can play across midfield and provides another excellent option for the Generals in our first season in the National League South. A technically proficient player with an eye for goal, Matt will bring tenacity together with craft and guile.
Matt will join up with the first of the first-team squad tomorrow when we host Hemel at the Meadow with a 1pm kick-off.
Welcome back Lenchy
